ORIGIN STORY - Scottish Juniper

We Found It
Team Collins visited Scotland as Mood Water was being developed. Creating a product with the aroma of Scottish Juniper was tricky, but finding and locating juniper trees on Scottish soil was even more difficult. Scotland has a lengthy history with juniper. However, climate change and pests have led to significant population drop in recent decades. Protection measures have been taken by government and environmental groups. Finding wild juniper in Highland Forest after several turns was remarkable. The low, spreading stems resembled earth veins, and the fruit at the branch tips were tempting. The aroma and sensation we wanted were perfect. We found it, and it met our expectations.
A Sip of Gin in Highland Forest
Scottish Highlands distilleries have long histories. Whisky and gin are typically made near the gorge's clean waters. Gin's appeal is in its botanical smells, whereas whisky's is in its malt's maturity. Scots may have felt the magical life of the Highland woodlands through gin for centuries. Juniper, the key component in gin, embodies the Highland Forest. This tree smells surprisingly complex. Refreshing pine aroma, flavorful juniper berries, deep tree bark, subtle mint notes, and exotic spices combine. When you smell juniper, you may practically imagine yourself in the Highland Forest sipping gin. Mood Water captures the purity and richness of a single ingredient in clean water. Enjoy the thrills of Scotland, the land of wanderers, in your daily life.
Scotland, the Wanderer’s Land
Scotland has a law called “Right to Roam”, allowing individuals to enjoy nature, including private property, by walking, camping and observing wildlife. This law requires respecting and protecting nature. We met specialists and locals, including universities and gin distilleries, and then hunted for juniper with an old van. Traveling in Scotland felt like wandering. We explored nature, encountering plants, animals, lakes, seas and medieval cities, generating a wonderful experience. The Scottish juniper we met at the conclusion of our long trek embodied its charm. The mysterious deep forest felt like a gift to the visitor, evoking Scotland’s soul and scent shared with generations.
The Mystical Deep Forest Tree
Scottish Celtic culture revered nature and believed all living things were connected. Juniper was part of this ‘interconnected nature’, symbolizing ‘purification’ and ‘protection’. Originally from the legend of the Celtics, juniper branches were burned or planted around homes to ward off illness and negativity. Juniper became a Scot’s ‘safeguards life’ tree. Recently, juniper trees in Scotland have become rarer. Thus, finding juniper in the wild is even ore exciting. Juniper is mysterious in Scotland’s deep forests. The tree’s robust branches, pointed leaves, and abundant juniper berries suggest nature’s intangible force.
How Scots Enjoy Nature
Scotland is known for “distilling culture”. Ancient distilleries in the Highland woodlands create some of the words most famous spirits. Since the 12th century, Scotland has distilled. Gin was invented in the 17th century. Although each distillery makes gin differently, all must contain juniper. Distillation concentrates juniper’s pure scent into “spirit”. The pure “essence” of juniper becomes gin. Scots, who revere the forest, seem to have enjoyed it carefully. They enjoy the romantic and various scents of the deep woodland through juniper gin.
